A Continuing Cultural Legacy Works by Alden Mason, Tony Angell & David Schwarz on view at the Wright Exhibition Space

  This Spring, Safeco Insurance donated over 800 works of Northwest Art from their Safeco Art Collection to the Washington Art Consortium.

A Continuing Cultural Legacy is an exhibition curated by Beth Sellars to serve as a tribute to Safeco Insurance's 35 years of collecting art that was created by the innovators of Northwest Art. Eighty-five artists are represented in the exhibition, spanning over 100 years from the late 1800s to today's contemporary artists. Many links that were formed between the generations of artist are visually presented in an attempt to suggest the historic framework of Northwest Art. Of primary focus is the considerable selection of excellent work included in the collection and the curatorial expertise demonstrated by the the Safeco Art Collection curators in their acquisitions.

Foster/White Gallery is proud to announce the inclusion of works by Alden Mason, Tony Angell, David Schwarz, and George Tsutakawa in the exhibition along side Northwest masters Mark Tobey, Kenneth Callahan, Helmi Juvonen and Morris Graves.

Congratulations to Elin Christopherson for being chosen as a 2010 Hauberg Fellow!

Named after Pilchuck co-founder John H. Hauberg (1916–2002) -- a  philanthropist, art collector, and important patron of artists -- the  Hauberg residency was established to encourage teamwork among a group of  outstanding artists.

Summer Outdoor Installation

Submission Deadline May 1, 2010

Foster/White Gallery seeks 6 - 9 artists for three outdoor sculpture exhibitions during the months of June through September. Each exhibition is six weeks long and allows for one day installation and one day de-installation. All work must be weatherproof, free standing, maximally 11 x 19 x 10.5 feet and minimally 6 x 3 x 3 feet (H x W x D)

Exhibition Dates

June 10 - July 27: installation June 9, de-installation July 28
July 14 - August 25: installation July 13, de-installation August 26
August 12 - September 21: installation August 11, de-installation September 22

Please send 6 - 12 images of current work, a detailed description of proposed sculpture, biography , and resume to the gallery via email, with subject line "Outdoor Sculpture Proposal" to seattle@fosterwhite.com or by mail 220 Third Avenue South, Seattle WA 98104.

Will Robinson, Seattle Times Sculptor Welcomes Yakima Controversy

Alden Mason at the Seattle Art Museum:  located in the third floor galleries

    

November 6, 2010–August 21, 2011

This installation will take a focused look at Alden Mason's work in  the SAM collection. The museum's holdings span almost the entire career  of this important Northwest artist, now in his ninety-first year. The  installation will explore Mason's varied career and how he continually  reinvented himself over the decades. Viewers will come away with a new  understanding of Alden Mason's importance and the continuing relevance  of his painting.

Manfred Lindenberger Group exhibition at Museum of Northwest Art


Works by Manfred Lindenberger, Windsor Utley, Mark Tobey and Kenneth Callahan are part of the group show, "Poses from the Permanent Collection," at the Museum of Northwest Art, LaConner WA  3/13/2010 - 6/13/2010. "Poses" features traditional portraits and abstract works from MONA's permanent collection.
