She Must Fly
Julia Lambright explores ideas of actual and constructed memory in her work, combining elements from her past and present, often in the midst of abstract forms, patterns, or intense motion. Sighting iconography of her native Russia as a source of inspiration, Lambright works in egg-tempera, the medium historically used by artists of Orthodox icons as early as the 12th century. Using the traditional combination of egg-tempera and wood panel, Lambright’s paintings have smooth, luminous surfaces, transforming principles and aesthetics of iconography into her contemporary paintings.
