When Time Runs Out
Erin Armstrong has built a visual language based in strong contrasting and graphic patterns, bright colors, and richly saturated verdure. She paints figures in varying degrees of abstraction, often in different positions of repose or languid poses. Communicating themes of memory and how climate change is impacting the places we hold dear, Armstrong draws on the genre of portraiture as a foundation for these explorations. Her choice to depict an atmosphere or sensation rather than recognizable individuals or locations allows viewers to place themselves in the narratives she gives us glimpses of. Armstrong’s bold brushwork and bright, somewhat nostalgic palette reveal her modern sensibility that is very much of our time.
