BOB PETERSON: FACE TO FACE

Photographer Bob Peterson made a name and career with the noteworthy images he created for LIFE Magazine, and became known for the warmth and humanity in his photographs. Peterson's success is backed by a long list of accolades, an impressive resume, and amazing experiences. He spent time with some of the most notable individuals of the 20th Century, capturing personal moments in the lives of leaders, creatives, and cultural icons. What Face to Face highlights is the spirit behind Peterson’s photographs. The images represent an era when the United States was experiencing a new level of freedom to explore the idealism that grew from the 1950s.

The selection of photographs featured in this collection is mostly comprised of portraits from another era. The comfortable vulnerability captured in each photograph is evidence of the ease Peterson felt in his role, an ease that extended to the subject and in turn, to us as we gaze at them today.

Bob Peterson's photographs are iconic. As a photographer he was able to adapt to changes in his field, making the shift from film to digital. The photographs in Face to Face are archival pigment prints made from digital scans of film negatives and color transparencies. This marriage of methods allows us to come face to face with Bob Peterson and the stories he told.
