SARA PITTMAN

Sara Pittman (b. 1991) is an American artist living and working in Atlanta, Georgia. Her work explores dreamlike worlds through her imaginative landscapes and flora-like abstract paintings. Through her distinct, ethereal approach to painting, Pittman’s work depicts fields of curiosity that hold within them compositions of whimsical form, rhythmic movement, and bold palettes atop radiant backgrounds. Inspired by a trip to Japan, her most recent work has shifted from a non-representational approach, to finding fascination for the more familiar subjects in the places she visits and inhabits.

From the floral patterns of a Japanese kimono to the experiences of being in a new environment, Pittman creates a realm of work that exists in both the exotic and the recognizable. Drawing from her surroundings and intuition, Pittman is inventive in her ability to capture the viewer and pull them into a place that can only exist within her mind. “My paintings are fabricated environments full of wonder. While some suggest familiarity through the formation of landscape, I’m approaching the canvas with no direction in mind. Rather, I’m allowing what’s around me to lead to imagination and trail towards worlds that haven’t existed before. I have no interest in replicating that which already exists. I want to paint as if I’m dreaming.” Pittman gifts us with paintings that are emotionally familiar yet visually out of the ordinary.

Pittman holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Huntingdon College, and since graduating in 2015, she has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions across the country. She is included in both private and corporate collections throughout North America and is represented by galleries in both the US and Canada. She currently paints full time out of her studio in Atlanta.
