XAVI BOU
SAVE THE DATE: Xavi Bou's first solo exhibition at the gallery, The Beauty of Bird Flight, opens First Thursday, October 2 from 6 - 8 pm. The exhibition runs until Saturday, October 25.
Internationally acclaimed Catalan photographer Xavi Bou uses his innovative photographic approach to bridge art, science, and the natural world. Through his Ornithographies and Entomographies series, Bou investigates the flight paths of birds and insects using a technique inspired by chronophotography. By capturing thousands of high-speed images, he creates large-format compositions that reveal the trajectory of animals in motion. The result is a striking body of work where movement becomes line, pattern, and form, uncovering behaviors that often go unnoticed by the naked eye.
Although his process draws on scientific tools, Bou’s intention is not to produce documentary images. His work occupies a space between photography, conceptual art, and ecological reflection. Rather than focusing on species identification or familiar landscapes, his images invite us to contemplate nature differently, emphasizing dynamics, relationships, and the inherent beauty of animal behavior.
Xavi Bou holds a geology degree from the University of Barcelona, Spain and continued his studies in photography at Grisart International Photography School. Beginning his Ornitographies project in 2012, Bou released his first edition in 2015. Bou has exhibited internationally, and his projects have appeared in publications including National Geographic, Sierra Club, BBC Science Focus, among others.
