A Coastal Copse Theatre is part of David Alexander's body of work from his 2021 exhibition, Second Time around the Coastline. Reminiscing about the landscape of his childhood on the West coast of Canada, Alexander states it was "always seemingly without change, but the tides and storms changed the feel of every trip...It remains wild, dynamic, and mysterious as it was when I first saw it, which makes the visual narrative uncommon."

David Alexander’s signature waterscapes and landscapes are done in a style that pushes reality to abstraction. He relies on a bold palette and gestural, seemingly wild paint application, creating paintings that are evocative of place but most often driven by emotion and color rather than depicting a recognizable landscape. The surface of water becomes an abstract field of colors, reflections and shapes mingling, allowing the eye to take in the attributes of the physical surface of his canvases.
