PAUL VEXLER INSTALLATION AT WSU TRI-CITIES
Installation view of Ribbon Writing, Washington State University - TriCities, Richland, WA.
Paul Vexler's newest installation, Ribbon Writing, is now complete at Washington State University TriCities, Richland. In partnership with Washington State University, this piece was acquired by the Washington State Art Collection. Ribbon Writing is comprised of three ribbons of painted aluminum, suspended in the main atrium of the Washington State University Academic Building in Richland, Southeastern Washington. Vexler likens the sculptures to Arabic calligraphy that is so beautiful on its own, even when the literal meaning is not known. They hint at verbal and visual worlds of meaning that are sometimes read and sometimes simply known. Two of the ribbons (in orange and teal) undulate and zig-zag across the space, while the yellow ribbon is formed like a knot.
Paul Vexler received his BFA from Penn State University, Centre County, PA. He has shown his work around the country, including at Washington State University, Pullman, WA, Holter Museum of Art, Helena, MT and Boise Art Museum, Boise, ID. He has created permanent installations for the Bellevue Arts Museum, Bellevue, WA, Delta Airlines Sky Lounge at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Seattle, WA and the Lynnwood Convention Center, Lynnwood, WA among others. His sculptures are in collections including Swedish Hospital, Issaquah, WA, King County Library System, Auburn, WA and Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana.
