Alden Mason’s artwork spans a range of styles and approaches. Mason continued his explorations with paint throughout his career, and allowed his work to evolve and shift. Although his oil paintings of a particular style (“Burpees") gained him the most attention, Mason was prolific in acrylic on canvas, on paper, and in other media. Gestural and narrative, much of Mason’s work features loose, abstracted figures, with foreground and background melding. Mason taught painting at the University of Washington for over 30 years, while maintaining his artistic practice and painting daily. "Stop and Go" (2005) shows Mason continuing to experiment with color, paint application, oil stick marking, and saturation in his later years.

The piece is presented in a simple wood frame painted black, no glass, measuring 30.75 x 39.75 x 1.5 inches.
