Jade Parrot
Will Robinson has the ability to convey through the elegance of his large stone sculptures that their creation is effortless. His sculptures emphasize the contrast between cut and polished aspects of the stones, highlighting the natural properties in each. Often looking to nature and the elements within it for inspiration, Robinson's sculptures capture a myriad of subtleties that must be continuously explored.
Firstly, the stone, a fabulous jadeite, is a show in itself, full of twisting green colors and some fool’s gold (iron pyrite). The design is very parrot-like for me, perhaps a memory of parakeets from my youth, as my mother had birds for a time. The more aggressive eye reminds me of being a bit wary of those birds, as likely to bite you as to look at you. I love the way the shape hovers over its base, as birds do. - Will Robinson
