Birds of Passage, 1/1
When young falcons leave their eyries, they will often keep company for a brief period. I have had the opportunity to watch kestrels, merlins and peregrins closely as they remain near their nests. Here a pair of young merlins, beginning explorations of our neighborhood and the adjoining territories, are still within reach of their parents who will occasionally feed them as they develop their own hunting skills. They are birds of passage, into their first year of life and onto the adventures of adulthood. — Tony Angell
