The sprawling deltas of the great rivers that empty into Puget Sound and the Salish Sea are the wintering grounds for vast numbers of waterfowl and shorebirds. Here we can witness curtains of dunlin, plover and sandpipers that open and close along the horizon or above the near shorelines. Their flights are precise and seem to defy possibility as they twist and turn, often to elude the pursuing falcons that also winter here. This work is in tribute to these players, fashioned over time by the forces of evolution, to engage in such a dramatic tableau of survival. — Tony Angell
