On The Hunt, AP 1/1
On occasion, when observing the manner and behavior or listening to the calls of some of our local birds, I am alerted to something seen by them but remaining unknown to me. A competitor at the feeding site heads our way, our local cat, who I had no idea was nearby, is prowling about and the birds begin to scold. Such were the conditions when a Steller’s jay above me, with crest raised and wings spread, called in alarm. A moment later from around the corner of our home, a Cooper’s hawk, on the hunt, headed our way. — Tony Angell
