Along the upper reaches of Icicle Canyon above Leavenworth, eagles are occasionally seen cruising low over the ridgetops, buoyed up by the thermals of warm air rising from the land below them. They have learned as adults to fly in close formation. At other times taking the similar flight lines, ravens and black swifts also glide up and down the canyon in what seems an effortless manner. — Tony Angell
