WILL ROBINSON | TIME TRAVELER
Nero, basalt, 29 x 21 x 15 inches
Foster/White presents Will Robinson's solo exhibition, Time Traveler. For this showcase of recent works, Robinson provides intriguing insights into the sculptures he creates.
Jade Parrot, jadeite and white granite, 74 x 26 x 14 inches
Robinson, on Jade Parrot: "Firstly, the stone, a fabulous jadeite, is a show in itself, full of twisting green colors and some fool’s gold (iron pyrite). The design is very parrot-like for me, perhaps a memory of parakeets from my youth, as my mother had birds for a time. The more aggressive eye reminds me of being a bit wary of those birds, as likely to bite you as to look at you. I love the way the shape hovers over its base, as birds do."
Logician, basalt and granite, 75 x 34 x 24 inches
On Logician, Robinson describes, "For me, this (semi-Cubist) design was a fun exercise. I’m circle and twist obsessed so when I venture into the world of right angles and straight lines, it’s presently a different process. The world around us is full of automation that produces near perfect copies constantly, full of sharp edges and straight lines, or concentric circles and sweeping curves. Somehow Logician balances on its curvaceous spire, stark contrasts in shapes and colors all part of its charm."
Heron's Shadow, green and white granite, 20 x 19 x 12 inches
