Foster/White Gallery presents Fused, a group exhibition showcasing contemporary glass sculpture by Fumi Amano, Sean Cramblett, David Hendren, Katie Miller, and Jim Scheller. The exhibition centers on the process of glass fusing—techniques in which layers of glass are heated, merged, and reshaped. While this shared methodology provides a unifying thread, the resulting works reveal the breadth and expressive potential of the medium.
Fumi Amano’s single work in the exhibition is the only piece that is not kiln-formed. Fused in a broader sense, her awe inspiring and complex sculpture explores themes of social and human connection. Sean Cramblett brings a sense of structural rhythm to his forms, emphasizing geometry, repetition, and an interplay of opacity and light. David Hendren leans into atmospheric color and painterly compositions, referring to his wall-mounted works as glass paintings. Katie Miller’s work highlights precision and pattern, with compositions informed by the impact of mining practices on the landscape. Jim Scheller, meanwhile, explores the interplay between form and light, channeling decades of material expertise into his luminous vessels.
Fused invites viewers to consider how heat, time, and pressure transform raw sheets of glass into objects that seem to capture motion, emotion, and light itself. The exhibition celebrates both innovation and mastery, offering a multifaceted view of contemporary glass sculpture through the eyes of five artists whose visions converge in radiant and unexpected ways.
