Chase Langford’s Chroma Series represents a distilled exploration of color, atmosphere, and place. While much of Langford’s work grows from geography and his early background in cartography, the Chroma paintings move toward greater formal simplicity, allowing color itself to become both subject and landscape. In this respect, the series enters into a dialogue with the tradition of Color Field painting. Within Langford’s broader practice, Chroma can be understood as a meeting point between Color Field abstraction and contemporary landscape painting. Cartographic information has been reduced to its emotional essence: boundaries become edges, territories become fields of color, and geography becomes memory. The paintings ultimately ask us not simply to recognize a place, but to experience the sensation of one.

Framed to 25.25 x 20.25 inches.
