Tony Angell recently wrote in the Salish Current about two of his sculptures on view at the North Cascades Institute. The Institute, whose Learning Center is located near Diablo Lake, is a nonprofit organization whose work focuses on environmental conversation and education. The bronze sculptures, Ascending Eagles and River Otters, depict two species of wildlife found in the Pacific Northwest. On the works Angell writes:
'Ascending Eagles,' a 16-foot bronze sculpture, is a life-sized depiction of a pair of these birds rising together on thermals of warm air to soar overhead.
'River Otters,' also life-sized, portrays a pair of these animals that are often seen within the watershed surrounding the institute. - Tony Angell
The two sculptures, originally created over forty years ago, have been on view at the North Cascades Institute's Learning Center for the last fifteen years. Read the artist's article and more about the installation of the two works at the Learning Center in 2010 below.
