Recalling the experience of traveling by boat around Capri island, Punta del Pinto is a densely layered meditation on coast, water, and geological form. The painting seems to gather multiple observations made from the sea—cliffs appearing and disappearing, caves opening in rock faces, sheltered coves, exposed promontories, and the constantly shifting boundary between land and water.

The dominant turquoise palette establishes the maritime character of the work, while passages of white, deep blue, green, ochre, and vivid red-orange animate its surface. Langford’s forms fold into one another like fragments of a coastline seen sequentially from a moving vessel. Long horizontal passages suggest the sweep of the shore, while vertical striations evoke eroded cliffs and rock walls descending into the sea. Darker enclosed shapes read almost as caves, crevices, or submerged openings glimpsed along the journey.
Although highly abstract, Punta del Pinto retains a strong sense of physical geography.
