Espíritu del Viento
George Rodriguez with Gabriel Marquez
"To me the sculpture represents a spirit guide disguised as a larger-than-life chihuahua. The coils and intricate pattern of the chihuahua are symbolic of my drawings which represent the spirit body or the skin that holds us together. The chihuahuas left ear is torn and scarred. He looks directly at you with a god like stare. Between the eyes is a burrowing doorway to the unknown. The lines of coils make the eyes travel throughout the piece in an instant, making it appear as if it is radiating the space that it occupies.
Working with George in his Seattle studio was an amazing experience. Before meeting George, I had only taken one class in Ceramics but have always been inspired by clay. When I got the opportunity to work on this project, I was excited and made the trip to collaborate in person."
