My work is a study of materials, creating unexpected interactions between mediums and investigating their limits within figurative forms.

I first started creating digital art in 2020, inspired by the fauna and flora of Australia. Today, the techniques that I try to create on canvas are in dialogue with those processes I learned from working digitally, they are either mimicking or in direct confrontation with how it feels to make art on a screen. I use acrylic paints and inks, soft pastels and loose pigments on raw canvas, sometimes stretched and other times unstretched to create the maximum amount of dispersion within the paint before it breaks apart.

Thematically, my work is influenced by a deep fascination with animals and our natural environment, comparative mythology, along with an art practice that utilizes the i-ching. The relationships between predator and prey and between people and the natural environment are replicated within myths, which are often depicted with similar visual patterns around the world, and these are the current focus of my work. - kwonny
