INGRID WEYLAND | TOPOGRAPHIES OF FRAGILITY | ADVANCE PREVIEW
August 6 - 22, 2026
Opening First Thursday, August 6, 6 - 8 pm
In Topographies of Fragility, Argentinian artist Ingrid Weyland explores the fragile relationship between humanity and the natural world through physically manipulated photographic landscapes. Drawn to remote environments where human presence becomes almost imperceptible, Weyland photographs landscapes experienced throughout her travels from Cape Horn to the Arctic, seeking to convey the emotional resonance of encountering these vast and seemingly timeless spaces.
Back in the studio, the photographic prints are folded, twisted, and crumpled by hand, transforming the image surface into something physically altered and wounded. What began intuitively while discarding unsuccessful prints gradually evolved into a reflection on the ways humans shape, use, and leave traces upon the environment itself.
Existing on paper derived from trees, the manipulated photographs establish a direct relationship between material and meaning. The creased surface becomes both metaphor and gesture, evoking the marks human activity leaves upon the landscape. At the same time, the works continue to preserve moments of beauty, contemplation, and emotional connection.
Through this series, Weyland invites viewers to reflect not only on ecological fragility, but also on the emotional spaces that still exist within nature: places of refuge, introspection and connection, that increasingly reveal their delicate balance.
