Manzanita
Will Robinson has the ability to convey through the elegance of his large stone sculptures that their creation is effortless. His sculptures emphasize the contrast between cut and polished aspects of the stones, highlighting the natural properties in each. Often looking to nature and the elements within it for inspiration, Robinson's sculptures capture a myriad of subtleties that must be continuously explored.
In my youth, my father introduced me to the manzanita plant, with its beautiful red bark and undulating trunk and branches. As a bonsai material, it was a promising, yet difficult plant to keep, growing best in the wild, uncontained and free. I love the red mahogany granite, embodying some of the color and allure of the manzanita trees I recall from my earliest memories. - Will Robinson
