Given my name, Lost in Space is an easy, funny connection, a shared cultural memory with those around and in my age group. In my mind, I have always converted Lost in Space to Lost in Place, a more personal credo referring to how I felt my place in the world for many of my years.
Yet throughout the decades of being an artist, I arrived at a different way of thinking and feeling about who I am. These days, with the benefit of my artist’s journey, I no longer feel lost in space or place. Rather, I found peace in where and who I am as a maker of art. The joy of creating is such a privilege, and I feel invigorated to be able to pursue and culminate my visions freely. For me, there’s nothing more fun than making cool stuff, if I can distill down my raison d'être.
This group of works are a mix of various sparks that intrigue me. There are some animal abstractions, such as my Darkling Hawks, some sea forms, as in Deep Sea Denizen II and Abyssal Eel, and human forms, like Corsair and Slinky Black Dress. I see and draw from inspirations all around us and am joyfully compelled to bring my ideas out from within the stones I collect along the way. — Will Robinson
